Although a year with plenty of challenges (to overcome by will and/or imagination!), the Timucuan Federation held their annual toy drive for the Toys for Tots foundation on Sunday, December 6th, 2020.
Our Federation Chief, Steve “Red Bear” Sharpe, and Medicine Man, Rick “Storm Cloud” Murphy, gathered with their young braves in the asphalt jungle of the Skate Station in the Mandarin area of Jacksonville, FL. Joined by their Sachem, Joe “Big Red” Woodlief, and his young brave, they stood by in the cold, wet driving rain…..er, uhhh. Ok, it was in the 60s and only overcast. But they all stood by patiently as they waited for the young braves and princesses to come by with their parents to donate toys for those children in our community in need.
Usually they also combine the toy drive with roller skating at the Skate Station. But as previously stated, it’s a year fraught with challenges. So to do their part and socially distance, they delayed the skating portion of that Sunday and stayed in the parking lot for their fellow Timucuan members to stop by quickly to drop off an unwrapped toy. They filled at least one and half lawn ‘n leaf jumbo bags to give to SSgt Gutierrez of the local USMC unit from the Marine Corps Support Facility Blount Island. The Toys for Tots drive goes until December 18th.
Thanks to all who came out to support this terrific program. The Timucuan Federation was honored to participate again.
The toy drive was supported by the following tribes;
Oconee,
Otoe,
Wakapalaka,
