SUMMARY:Order of the White Buffalo
DESCRIPTION:Big How\, The OWB celebration is at the Ichetucknee this year on Saturday\, May 31st. (same location as last year) If you are a member of a qualifying tribe\, the federation will pay for a large vinyl tube for the adults and medium tube for your child. If your child is weight is close to 100 lbs. or more\, we will compensate for a large tube. The federation will also provide dinner Saturday night for your family. Qualifying tribes can be determined by our website under OWB Status column. \nA tribe needs at least 550 coup points (450 first year tribe) + 2 service projects + recruitment event to be OWB qualified. Many tribes only lack a service project which will be fulfilled by Alex’s Lemonade Stand or recruitment event. Deadline for reporting is May 28th. If website is incorrect\, please let me know. If you lack another service project or recruitment event\, you have over a month to do. Note: A recruitment event is organized and put on by a tribe(s). This is not participating in federation recruitment event or training. Email Recruitment Chief for more details or ideas. \nYou are responsible for:\n– Making reservations if you are camping ( http://www.ichetuckneecanoeandcabins.net ) tent\, RV and cabin options are available. There is a 2 night minimum reservation.\n– Paying for entry into state park (see link below) \nYou will have to pick-up your tubes at Ichetucknee Family Canoe & Cabins on Saturday after 6am. (where most people are camping) Just tell one of the three attendants what tubes/raft you want. They will write you a ticket which you will take to the cashier. Tell cashier you are with Native Sons and Daughters and they will check off your name on the list and mark ticket paid. If you get anything other than large or medium vinyl tube\, you will have to pay difference. We are getting group price of $3 for large and $2 for medium tubes. You will then take slip to attendant who will help strap down tubes. \nIt is highly recommended to be in line at the north entrance shortly after 7am. The North entrance opens at 8am and only allows 750 tubers down per day. Note: You will drop off your tubes and kids at the North entrance and then drive to the south entrance. The kids can hang out at the Blue Hole Spring while waiting until the tram returns you to the North entrance. \nLast year\, we left lunch in the cars and ate at the south entrance parking lot. After lunch\, we continued on the river to the take-out point. See map athttp://www.floridastateparks.org/ichetuckneesprings/doc/additionalinformation/IchetuckneeMap.pdf \nDinner is scheduled for 7pm at the campground pavilion followed by awards at 8 and movie at 8:30pm. SUMMARY:Alex's Lemonade Stand
DESCRIPTION:Native Sons and Daughters is once again teaming up with Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation to raise money for pediatric cancer research. Alex’s Lemonade Stand will be held Saturday\, May 10 at Publix locations across the city. We will pass out cans of lemonade donated by Pepsi and hope that those receiving their lemonade will be moved to donate to ALSF. Publix locations will be chosen by your tribe’s chief based on coup points. The Native Sons and Daughters program needs its members to lend a hand on Saturday May 10 to make this event successful. This year our donation to ALSF is in honor of a local two year old who beat childhood leukemia this year. Let’s work together to make this year’s event the best ever! Tribes will be notified this month regarding which Publix store will host their lemonade stand. Your tribe will be in charge of running the event at that store\, including picking up necessary event materials\, cleaning up after the lemonade stand\, and returning all monies collected to event leader immediately following the end of the fundraiser. \nAlexandra “Alex” Scott was born to Liz and Jay Scott in Manchester\, Connecticut on January 18\, 1996\, the second of four children. Shortly before her first birthday\, Alex was diagnosed with neuroblastoma\, a type of childhood cancer. \nOn her first birthday\, the doctors informed Alex’s parents that if she beat her cancer it was doubtful that she would ever walk again. Just two weeks later\, Alex slightly moved her leg at her parents’ request to kick. This was the first indication of who she would turn out to be – a determined\, courageous\, confident and inspiring child with big dreams and big accomplishments. \nBy her second birthday\, Alex was crawling and able to stand up with leg braces. She worked hard to gain strength and to learn how to walk. She appeared to be beating the odds\, until the shattering discovery within the next year that her tumors had started growing again. In the year 2000\, the day after her fourth birthday\, Alex received a stem cell transplant and informed her mother\, “when I get out of the hospital I want to have a lemonade stand.” She said she wanted to give the money to doctors to allow them to “help other kids\, like they helped me.” True to her word\, she held her first lemonade stand later that year with the help of her older brother and raised an amazing $2\,000 for “her hospital.” \nWhile bravely battling her own cancer\, Alex and her family continued to hold yearly lemonade stands in her front yard to benefit childhood cancer research. News spread of the remarkable sick child dedicated to helping other sick children. People from all over the world\, moved by her story\, held their own lemonade stands and donated the proceeds to Alex and her cause. \nIn August of 2004\, Alex passed away at the age of 8\, knowing that\, with the help of others\, she had raised more than $1 million to help find a cure for the disease that took her life. Alex’s family – including brothers Patrick\, Eddie\, and Joey – and supporters around the world are committed to continuing her inspiring legacy through Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation. \nEvent Date/Time: May 10\, 2014 2 – 6 PM \nEvent Location: At your neighborhood Publix
