SUMMARY:Open House in San Marco - OPEN TO THE PUBLIC
DESCRIPTION:Native Sons and Daughters is a parent and child organization. We are a non-profit organization focused on building a lifelong bond between parents and their children. Unlike most other organizations\, we keep both parent and child active together through small group (Tribe) activities and large group (Nation) activities. \nNative Sons and Daughters programs are most active during the school year. Each fall we open our doors to the public and host a series of informational open house events where prospective members can hear about the programs from active members\, both parents and children\, and get answers for any questions they might have. \nWe understand time is valuable and lives are busy so we plan a variety of events to help you enjoy quality time with your child. The more you participate\, the more memories you will build. The Native American theme serves as a common level of interest between parent and child not only to learn about that culture but to reinforce family values. \nFor more information about the Native Sons and Daughters of Jacksonville and the Timucuan Longhouse\, please email info@nsdjax.org. \nPlease join us. Your kids will thank you later. \nLocation: Hendrix Ave Baptist Church at 4001 Hendricks Ave\, Jacksonville\, FL 32207\nDate/Time: Thursday\, September 22nd at 7:00pm

SUMMARY:Suwannee Canoe Trip
DESCRIPTION:Princesses and Braves\, get your big Braves (and Big Tau’s too\, this is a family trip for anyone interested). Once again it is time to load the dugouts for a trip way down upon the Suwannee River. We will meet up on Saturday August 6\, 2015 at 9:00 am at the Canoe Outpost at Spirit of the Suwannee Music Park. We will paddle down to the Holton Creek River Camp where we will spend the night\, grilling the gifts of the Great Spirit\, and enjoying fellowship. In the morning we will paddle to Gibson Park where the folks from Canoe Outpost will pick us up and take us back to our vehicles. We are usually back at the Canoe Outpost and headed back to Jacksonville no later than 2 p.m. Best news: No upstream paddle this year!!! \nThe facilities at the river camp include\, fresh water (a little sulphuric\, good for washing not so good for drinking)\, flushing porcelain\, and hot water showers. There are screened and roofed sleeping platforms for the first 40 people who register. After that you need to bring a tent. I will let you know beforehand if you need to bring a tent if you are after the cut-off. \nThe Federation will provide the charcoal and lighter fluid for the state park style grills. You bring your meat of choice and any sides and drinks\, and don’t forget something to flip your meat. Foil wrapped pre-cooked baked potatoes do not take long to reheat in the coals. Breakfast is your choice. I always bring a camp stove and a big pot for boiling water. And I will have percolator coffee\, with sugar and cream for the morning coffee drinkers. \nPack light. Everything you bring has to fit in your boat. If you bring it\, it will probably get wet. \nThe river is a little lower than usual and may require more paddling than prior years. \nCost is as follows: \nRent a boat from CO:\n \n\n$30 each for the first 2 people in a boat.\n$15 for the third person in a boat.\n\nBring your own boat: \n\n$15 per person.\n\nSOSMP is now charging an entry fee of approximately $2 per boat. it is included if you rent boats from the Outpost. \nThe cost covers boat rental\, gratuity for the drivers\, charcoal\, lighter fluid and morning coffee on Sunday. If you need some type of fancy creamer bring it. \nPlease download a liability waiver required for each person. Completing it at home and bringing it with you will speed up our departure. \nDates: August 6-7\, 2016\nLocation: Spirit of the Suwannee Canoe Outpost\nRegistration (Bring Canoe): CircleBridge\nRegistration (Rent Canoe): CircleBridge

SUMMARY:Alex's Lemonade Stand
DESCRIPTION:Native Sons and Daughters is once again teaming up with Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation to raise money for pediatric cancer research. Alex’s Lemonade Stand will be held Saturday\, May 7 at Publix locations across the city. We will pass out cans of lemonade donated by Publix and hope that those receiving their lemonade will be moved to donate to ALSF. Publix locations will be chosen by your tribe’s chief based on coup points. The Native Sons and Daughters program needs its members to lend a hand on Saturday May 7 to make this event successful. Let’s work together to make this year’s event the best ever! Tribes will be notified this month regarding which Publix store will host their lemonade stand. Your tribe will be in charge of running the event at that store\, including picking up necessary event materials\, cleaning up after the lemonade stand\, and returning all monies collected to event leader immediately following the end of the fundraiser. \nAlexandra “Alex” Scott was born to Liz and Jay Scott in Manchester\, Connecticut on January 18\, 1996\, the second of four children. Shortly before her first birthday\, Alex was diagnosed with neuroblastoma\, a type of childhood cancer. \nOn her first birthday\, the doctors informed Alex’s parents that if she beat her cancer it was doubtful that she would ever walk again. Just two weeks later\, Alex slightly moved her leg at her parents’ request to kick. This was the first indication of who she would turn out to be – a determined\, courageous\, confident and inspiring child with big dreams and big accomplishments. \nBy her second birthday\, Alex was crawling and able to stand up with leg braces. She worked hard to gain strength and to learn how to walk. She appeared to be beating the odds\, until the shattering discovery within the next year that her tumors had started growing again. In the year 2000\, the day after her fourth birthday\, Alex received a stem cell transplant and informed her mother\, “when I get out of the hospital I want to have a lemonade stand.” She said she wanted to give the money to doctors to allow them to “help other kids\, like they helped me.” True to her word\, she held her first lemonade stand later that year with the help of her older brother and raised an amazing $2\,000 for “her hospital.” \nWhile bravely battling her own cancer\, Alex and her family continued to hold yearly lemonade stands in her front yard to benefit childhood cancer research. News spread of the remarkable sick child dedicated to helping other sick children. People from all over the world\, moved by her story\, held their own lemonade stands and donated the proceeds to Alex and her cause. \nIn August of 2004\, Alex passed away at the age of 8\, knowing that\, with the help of others\, she had raised more than $1 million to help find a cure for the disease that took her life. Alex’s family – including brothers Patrick\, Eddie\, and Joey – and supporters around the world are committed to continuing her inspiring legacy through Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation. \nEvent Date/Time: May 7\, 2016 2:00 – 6:00 PM \nEvent Location: At your neighborhood Publix

SUMMARY:Alex's Lemonade Stand
DESCRIPTION:Native Sons and Daughters is once again teaming up with Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation to raise money for pediatric cancer research. Alex’s Lemonade Stand will be held Saturday\, May 9 at Publix locations across the city. We will pass out cans of lemonade donated by Publix and hope that those receiving their lemonade will be moved to donate to ALSF. Publix locations will be chosen by your tribe’s chief based on coup points. The Native Sons and Daughters program needs its members to lend a hand on Saturday May 9 to make this event successful. \nEvent Date/Time: May 9\, 2015 2:00 – 6:00 PM \nEvent Location: At your neighborhood Publix
