SUMMARY:Boys Fall Longhouse 2019
DESCRIPTION:UPDATE: Agenda has been updated with tribe activity and campsite assignments. Download the agenda. \nDownload the official Iron Chief rules. The Federation-provided ingredients will be pork belly and “three sisters” vegetables (squash\, corn\, and beans). Start planning today. \nFor the orienteering race\, we will go over basic compass orienteering before the race starts. You can get a head start by watching these videos:\n– Learn Map & Compass in One Minute\n– How to Use a Compass\n– Introduction to Orienteering (more info than we need) \nThe Beaver Moon in November is named for the beavers which at this time of the year become particularly active building their winter dams in preparation for the cold season. As we gather for our 2019 Boys Fall Longhouse\, we will also spend time in preparation\, and competition\, for wilderness survival. Spirit of the Suwannee\, Timucuan’s autumnal stomping grounds\, is the perfect place to hone our wilderness survival skills. \nAgenda\nOn Saturday\, we’ll have our opening ceremony as usual\, and will then move into a brief presentation on wilderness preparedness and survival kid-focused outdoor ethics given by a couple of Master Educators from the Leave No Trace organization. We’ll then kick off the fun with a few familiar competitions: BB Guns\, Archery\, and Egg Toss. \nThe last competition of the morning will be a new one\, building tarp shelters. Learn some useful knots ahead of the event\, and watch some tarp shelter videos to find a shelter design that is comfortable\, provides good protection from the elements\, and is fun to hang out in. A tarp and paracord will be provided. Bring anything else you may need. Best three shelters will win medals. \nWatch videos on building tarp shelters \nUseful tarp shelter knots: \n\nBowline knot\nTrucker’s hitch\nPrusik hitch\n\n\n\nIn the afternoon will be an orienteering race. With a provided compass and map\, tribes will race their way through a mapped course. Tribe start times will be staggered. We’ll track the start and finish times and award medals to the fastest three tribes. Kids can’t do this one on their own\, so limber up Dads. \nAfter our physical activities are done\, we’ll be hosting a cooking competition we’re calling IRON CHIEF! Using provided ingredients\, each tribe will cook their own best dish for the judges. Use whatever other ingredients you want\, but the provided ingredients have to be the star of the dish. We will let you know the ingredients and full rules ahead of time so you can plan. No dare food allowed (e.g. dried crickets\, melt-your-face-off hot sauce\, ghost chilis\, etc.)! \nWhile dads are busy cooking\, the boys will compete in Big Red’s critter race. Hand sanitizer will be provided after the race. \nAs with all Fall Longhouses\, this will be a Sacred Fire with an Acorn Ceremony on Saturday night. Remember that the silent walk is the start of a very special night to remember for our newest members. Help make this fire walk as perfect as it was for you. \nNotes\nCash and PayPal will be accepted for the raffle\, in addition to advance ticket purchases on CircleBridge. We will draw winners for the TBA raffle prizes at closing ceremonies. Ticket\, not person\, must be present to win. \nGolf cart rentals must be made with the Country Store directly. We have arranged a $35 per day rate while carts last. Call (386) 364-4841 to reserve yours today! If you will be bringing your own golf cart\, you must register it with them and pay a fee. See Suwannee’s Golf Cart Policy for details. \nA full agenda will be posted as the event gets closer. Email any questions you have to your Tribe Chief or Nation Chief. \nRegister on CircleBridge – $35 for Tent camping\, $40 for RVs \nBig How! \nChief Soaring Falcon and Chief Iron Wolf
